Transition/Quote model & Senior Projects

  • Opening Moment: Nate S (But I forgot...)
  • Senior Project Packets
  • Ms. P checks in with you about your idea for feature #1
  • Look at feature article from class--> identify the lead, nut graph, Transition/Quotes
  • The following was emailed later:

Hi folks,

Here are somethings I didn't mention in class:

1-A rule of thumb is the Transition/Quote formula is repeated 10X.  That means you have about 10 quotes you feel comfortable working with (nothing dull or obvious).  This should also give you an approximation of length.

2-Record your interview on your iPad; it's easier to go back and get the exact wording.

3-Hints for interviewing if you are new to it or feeling rusty: http://www.columbia.edu/itc/journalism/isaacs/edit/MencherIntv1.html

4-Do your interview Friday or this weekend so you aren't frantically writing it during lunch on Monday.  It's a rough draft due--but I want it all there in order to tweak it.

5-Give yourself time to interview someone.  Ask them ahead of time.  Let it start with prepared questions that lead to a natural conversation.

Best,
Ms P
