Finishing NPR projects, Blog reflection, Personality profiles

  • Finish listening to NPR style projects
  • Homework due: three ideas on who to interview
  • Personality Profiles
    • Hearst Journalism Awards: The Hearst Journalism Awards Program, was founded in 1960, to provide support, encouragement, and assistance to journalism education at the college and university level. The program awards scholarships to students for outstanding performance in college-level journalism, with matching grants to the students' schools.
    • Links to Hearst Journalism Award Winners: Visit the section marked Personality/Profile.  Feel free to look at other years as well. Read 2-3 different personality profiles.
    • With a partner, discuss (and write down so you remember!)/be prepared to talk about with the class:
      • 1. How is a personality/profile different from an article you would read on the front page of a newspaper?
      • 2. How did the writer hook you in the first paragraph?
      • 3.  If we create a rubric in order to assess a quality personality profile, what elements would we need to assess? (EX: what categories would go down the left-hand side of the rubric).
